Having trouble picking between Real Grass or Artificial Grass for your Bay Area or Sacramento region landscape project?
The good news for you is that EV Landscape can help install either! But which one do you choose?
Living in the Bay Area or Sacramento, artificial grass landscape tends to be the most popular choice lately because of water rationing. It seems that we are now in a constant water rationing mode in most counties of California.
This obviously effects most people’s landscape projects and is worth spending some time thinking about.
Below are some points to consider when making your decision:
Cost
Artificial grass costs more to install than real grass, but it can be more cost-effective over time. EV Landscape can talk to you in detail regarding costs and help you make an educated decision that works best for your landscape project and budget.
Durability
Artificial grass needs to be replaced every 12 – 18 years. A real grass lawn properly fertilized and treated may last forever.
Drainage
Real grass drains much better, and it’s much nicer for kids to play on.
Appearance
Artificial grass is green all year, while real grass can burn or die if not properly watered and cared for. Therefore, having a well-functioning irrigation system in place is very important to keep your real grass alive.
Maintenance
Artificial grass is almost maintenance-free, while real grass requires regular maintenance.
Safety
Some artificial grass is non-toxic and non-allergic, and some variants are designed to be hypoallergenic and shock-absorbing.
Environmental impact
Real grass cools the environment through transpiration, while artificial grass doesn’t. Artificial grass also restricts access to natural materials that feed soil organisms.
Wildlife
Real grass attracts wildlife, while artificial grass doesn’t. There are plusses to both here depending on your environment and place of residence.
Temperature
Artificial grass can reach higher temperatures than real grass in the same weather conditions. Having small kids who may run barefoot in the back yard when the sun is shining, artificial grass will feel hotter on their feet to the point of potentially being uncomfortable.
Irrigation – For artificial grass lawns, you obviously don’t need an irrigation system, whereas real grass will need a sprinkler system installed.
Chemicals – With artificial grass, you never need to use chemicals. When choosing to install real grass, you may need to treat with chemicals to kill weeds and use fertilizer to maintain a nice luscious green turf.
Mowing – Real grass needs to be mowed on a weekly basis to look nice and tidy. Artificial grass doesn’t need mowing, however artificial grass does need to be combed to keep it looking nice. You can purchase a nice brush and comb your artificial grass to keep it looking nice.
